Jicama is a delicious and crunchy tuber that you must try if you haven’t yet! It is cooling in nature, juicy, fiburous, and packed with loads of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins.

Jicama belongs to the family of turnips, however it doesn’t carry the pungent and bitter taste that a turnip has. In fact, jicama is much sweeter and juicier so that you can almost replace it as a fruit.
Jicama can be had raw as a salad, baked, fried, stir-fried, pureed, or added to soups and curries. It is highly versatile in nature, hence one more reason to give it a try!
Jicama Sesame Seeds Puree
This recipe of jicama puree is delicious and loved by kids and adults. It is great option to be included in the meals of Diabetics, pregnant ladies, new mothers, and for those looking to lose weight.
Jicama puree with sesame seeds carries goodness of both sesame and jicama. It can serve as a light meal/snack option should you be looking for one.
Jicama Sesame Seeds Puree
Equipment
- Blender or Food Processor
- Heavy Bottom Pan or Pot
Ingredients
- 1 Full-sized Fresh Jicama
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce (Naturally Brewed) To taste
- 2 Garlic Cloves finely chopped or pounded.
- 1 tsp Black Pepper For garnishing
- 2 tbsp Roasted black sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil Or any pure cooking oil
- 1 tsp Rice vinegar optional
Instructions
Cleaning and Preparing Jicama
- Wash and peel the Jicama.
- Cut it into one inch cubes and keep aside.
Cooking Jicama
- Heat the pan and add oil to it.
- Once the oil is hot, add chopped garlic. Mix well and let the garlic turn golden brown.
- Now add cut jicama. Mix well and cover. Cook on low heat for 5 mins.
- Now add soy sauce and vinegar. Mix well and cover. Let the mix cook again for few more mins, till the jicama starts to turn soft.
- Close the heat. Let the mix cool down.
- Once it comes to normal temperature, add the jicama to a blender and grind to get a smooth puree.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and black pepper.
- Serve with steamed rice. Enjoy!
